TRIO Day 2020

KY TRIO Day 2020 will be Saturday, February 29rd, 2020 at Kentucky State University with preliminary Upward Bound Scholars Bowl Competition Rounds beginning Friday, February 28th, 2020.  

Make plans to attend today!  There will be Student Initiative Competitions for TRIO participants of all program types in addition to sessions for students not competing.  If your students have never competed in one of our competitions, you can find more information about them here.

TRIO Day participants will be divided into three groups listed as followed:

Green Group-Western Kentucky University (UB), University of Pikeville (UB), & BCTC (UB)

Gold Group-Murray State University (UB), Kentucky State University (UB), Murray State University (UB Christian County)

Red Group-EKU Upward Bound

Each group will engage in a campus tour, BRED Experience panel discussion, and various workshops to include a departmental college fair. Workshops are listed as followed:

*The First Experience-Facilitated by Student Support Services

This workshop will share information on how to be empowered and equipped as TRIO students on a college campus for the first time by utilizing campus support programs such as Student Support Services. It will also shed light on various hurdles TRIO students must overcome in order to be successful as well as provide information on how to maintain success.

*The Scholar Experience-Facilitated by Dr. F. Erik Brooks, Dean of College of Humanities and Social Sciences/Whitney Young Honors Program and Adriana Palmer, Advisor of University College

The academic success of Kentucky State University’s students is of foremost importance to the University’s administration, faculty, and staff. This workshop will provide information on various techniques and skills that will equip students to achieve academic success while in college.

*The Major Experience-Facilitated by Dr. Stashia Emmanuel, Assistant Provost of Academic Affairs and Kentucky State University’s Faculty and Staff

Choosing a major and minor can be intimidating for some students. However, at Kentucky State University, our faculty and administration will do our best to ensure students select a major and/or minor that will prepare them for successful careers. Stop by department and program tables to talk with our faculty and staff about the variety of majors and minors we have to offer at KSU.

Campus engagement is pivotal for academic success as a TRIO student. Come meet Dr. Derek Greenfield, Vice-President of Student Engagement and Campus Life, and various students leaders to discuss the “life” of a KSU student and how student engagement ensures academic success.

*Campus Tour

Join our student ambassadors and leaders for a brief Kentucky State University campus tour. Learn of the history and beauty of Kentucky’s first and most diverse historically black college and university.
